System Of A Down -rumpali John Dolmayanin luotsaama These Grey Men siirtynyt studioon – Serj Tankianin vihjaillaan olevan mukana
Jo vuodesta 2014 asti System Of A Downin rumpali John Dolmayan on työstänyt These Grey Men -projektiaan yhdessä pitkäaikaisen ystävänsä, muusikon ja tuottajan James Hazleyn kanssa. Alun perin Kickstarter -sivustolla rahoitusta hakenut projekti on nyt edennyt studioon asti, jossa Dolmayanin viimeaikaisen Instagram -päivityksen perusteella on aloitettu lauluraitojen nauhoittaminen. 55 215 dollaria onnistuneesti keränneen projektin piti julkaista cover-albuminsa jo vuonna 2015.
Instagram -päivityksen kommenttiosiossa System Of A Downin solisti Serj Tankian kommentoi: “When do I get to sing on some female vocal jam you’ve got lined up for me”, johon Dolmayan vastaa pyytävänsä miehen studioon tämän lomamatkan jälkeen. Dolmayanin oli kuulemma alun perin tarkoitus kysyä Tankiania mukaan yksityisesti, mutta koska asiaa alettiin käsittelemään julkisesti kommenteissa, sen annettiin paljastua. Lisäksi kuvassa esiintyvän laulajan epäillään kommenteissa olevan Apocalypticassakin laulava Franky Perez.

Dolmayan kertoo projektin synnystä Kickstarterissa:
”About two years ago, I began to feel somewhat incomplete. I was touring and having a great time with my friends in System Of A Down, but something was missing. After some soul searching, it hit me that I hadn’t given anything new artistically to the world in far too long. Though touring was fantastic, it didn’t fulfill a fundamental need that was growing day by day within me. A need to step into the studio with a blank canvas and share what comes out with fans across the world”

”The album will cover a range of songs from artists such as Radiohead and Outkast to David Bowie, and will include an all-star band that we’re in the process of developing now. For this project, lots of different styles are going to be incorporated, especially drum-wise. The sound is going to be rock-derivative, and will also include some hip-hop songs explored through the lens of rock. There are no limitations artistically for this project”
