Tässä ovat kaikkien aikojen kymmenen ilkeintä Nickelback-meemiä
Ainakin Teamrock-sivuston mukaan. Kaaoszine uutisoi aikaisemmin Kanadan provinssin, Prinssi Edwardin saaren konstaapeli Rob Hartlen päivityksestä uhata rattijuoppoja Nickelbackin musiikilla. Ei mennyt kauaa, kun mies jo pahoitteli vitsiksi tarkoitettua päivitystään perustelujen kera ja poisti sen Kensingtonin poliisin Facebook-sivuilta. Internetilmiöksi noussut Nickelback on epäilemättä yksi maailman vihatuimmista yhtyeistä ja esimerkkejä tästä on lukuisia. Miksi sitten monet ihmiset ympäri maailmaa vihaavat maailmanlaajuisesti menestynyttä kanadalaisyhtyettä?
Itse asiassa Itä-Suomen yliopiston tohtoriopiskelija Salli Anttonen yritti etsiä vastausta tähän kysymykseen. Anttonen analysoi 14 vuoden takaisia suomalaisia uutisia, haastatteluita sekä arvovaltaisten musiikkikriitikoiden halveksuvia arvosteluita. Kriitikoiden näkemysten nainen uskoo johtuvan elitismistä ja vihaamisen olevan tapa pönkittää omaa musiikkimakuaan, sillä arvosteluissa käytettiin samoja kritisointisyitä. Hän teki myös huomion ilmiömäisen negatiivisuuden lisääntymisestä sitä mukaan, mitä kuuluisampi yhtyeestä tuli. Suosion kasvaessa Nickelback pyrki liikaa miellyttämään kaikkia ja jäljittelemään monia eri genrejä, ilman omaa identiteettiä. Tämä jos joku sai aikaan monissa ärsyyntymistä.
Runsaasti kansainvälistä huomiota saanut väitöskirjatutkimus nimeltään ”Hypocritical Bullshit Performed Throught Gritted Teeth; Authenticity Discourses In Nickelback’s Album Reviews In Finnish Media” julkaistiin alun perin maaliskuussa tieteellisessä Metal Music Studies-julkaisussa. Monien maiden uutisotsikoihin se päätyi kuitenkin vasta Buzzfeed-mediasivuston artikkelin johdosta. Nämä asiat laittoivat Teamrockin toimituksen pohtimaan, mitkä ovat kaikkein julmimpia meemejä yhtyeestä.
