Deep Purplen Ian Gillan: ”Pitkän uramme salaisuus on se, että olemme aina olleet uskollisia itsellemme musiikin osalta”

Englantilainen rocklegenda Deep Purple on julkaisemassa uuden ”Whoosh!”-albuminsa elokuun 8. päivä earMusicin kautta. Yhtyeen laulaja Ian Gillan sekä rumpali Ian Paice ovat antaneet hiljattain Rock Candy -nimiselle lehdelle haastattelun, jossa ovat pohtineet bändin pitkän iän salaisuutta. Laulaja Ian Gillanin mukaan raha ei ole koskaan ollut bändille kovinkaan suuri motivaattori, sillä sitä tuli jo bändin varhaisina vuosina niin paljon, ettei siitä ole sen jälkeen tarvinnut välittää. Gillan toteaakin yhtyeen pitkän uran syntyneen todennäköisesti siksi, että se on koko ajan ollut uskollinen omalle tyylilleen. Gillan kertoi bändin pitkästä urasta seuraavaa:

”The early days were fabulous. Everything was new and wonderful and shocking. Things got bigger and bigger and bigger, so we became very confident. But as young men, we were also wealthy. We had more money than we could ever imagine. In those circumstances, you can end up becoming surrounded by sycophants who tell you you can’t do a thing wrong. At that age I thought I knew everything. How wrong I was.
