Kirjoittanut Arto Mäenpää - 17.8.2011

Kotimainen progressiivista metallia soittava Ghost Brigade julkaisee 24. päivä elokuuta uuden ”Until Fear No Longer Defines Us”. Mistä albumin kappaleet oikein kertovat ja mikä on albumin teema? Yhtyeen vokalisti Manne Ikonen paljasti meille hieman tarinaa albumin kappaleiden takaa. Lue lisää nähdäksesi kertomus albumin kappaleista.

1. ”In The Woods”:

Tarinaki on vanha.

4. ”Traces Of Liberty”: Tämä on sitä meijän juurimusaa eli stoner/doom-tyyppistä 3-jakosta Black Sabbathismia, Hyvä kaljottelubiisi,,heh,,. Naukkarisen teksti täs biisissä on vapauden lähteillä. Kertosäkeen tekstissä on eräs Hra.Naukkarisen huono keikkaelämys.

5. ”Divine Act Of Lunacy”: Taasen hiukka kepeämpi rokkiralli, jossa on ripaus QOTSA-henkisyyttä. Biisin tarinapohjana on edelleen ihmisen hulluus ja tarve tuhota kaikki vaikkapa sen kaikkivaltiaan nimeen, taas.

7. ”Breakwater”: Raskas doom/sludge-runttaus, levyn pisin raita, joka loppuu ilkeään hakkaavaan riffiin. Parasta GB:tä. Teksti on Willen.

8. ”Cult Of Decay”: Riffiltään hieman kokeilevampi biisi, tää tuli muistaakseni viimesten joukossa, ja lauloinki narulle tän toka vikana,,muistaakseni. Tarina luhistuksen partaalla olevasta ihmiskunnasta, joka silti luottaa ns.korkeimpien voimien pelastukseen, vaikkakin suomeksi sanottuna paska on jo pahasti housussa.

Kiitos!!

”When you have lost all direction.
Let the silence speak the loudest words.
When you have lost all direction.
Let the undone come to life.
And feel the love engraved. To the undivided precence of hope and innocence”

English version (written by vocalist Manne Ikonen):

1. ”In The Woods”: The album starts with an acoustic song. We decided to make one because we’ve been dreaming about making this type of a song for a long time. This was the last song I sang on the record and I did it without any rehearsing. I think I made it pretty well,if I may say so. Lyrics are about a dude who’s remembering his youth and a weird friend of his who used to tend his own graveyard in the woods. Basic idea of the lyrics was ghosts.. or demons of the past.

2. ”Clawmaster”: The song has a heavy, sort-of-a half sludgy riff and it is probably the most similar to the basic GB stuff. There’s also an animated music video coming out for this song, made by Fursy Teyssier (Les Discrets,Alcest). This is a story or a fairytale of a creature under slavery and the consequences that follows when he finally get’s enough of it. Finally he brakes free and ends up to behave like his own master used to behave. So the topic here is: if you bully someone enough, the result might get ugly; and it usually does.

3. ”Chamber”: This one is an easy going, more pop/rock type of a song. This one is the song that riff/lyric wise was completed first. The song is about a desperate relationship which has turned into a prison. Neither one can’t give up, even though there’s nothing to fight for anymore.

4. ”Traces Of Liberty”: Here we are strongly digging our roots. The song has a good ol’ stoner riff which brings Black Sabbath into my mind. A good song to grab a beer or 16. Mr.Naukkarinen wrote the lyrics to this one and the song is telling story about being in the source of freedom. There’s also a bad gig experience hidden in the chorus.

5. ”Divine Act Of Lunacy”: Again a little bit lighter rock’n’roll song with a hint of QOTSA spiritism, heh.The theme of the song is again the insanity of the mankind and the need to destroy everything by the name -for example- of the almighty.

6. ”Grain”: A sensible ballad representing the softer side of GB.The storyline is about the struggle of being able to love and be loved. The song is also about anxiety in everyday life and allowing in self-destruction. Cloomy but oh, so lovely!

7. ”Breakwater”:A very heavy doom/sludge-type of song. The longest track on the album which ends to the meanest beating riff. In my mind the best GB stuff on this album. Wille wrote lyrics to this song and the idea is in giving up the past and starting a new chapter in life. Notice that you can find the album title between 1st and 2nd verses.

8. ”Cult Of Decay”:The main riff in this particular song is a bit more progressive,it reminds me of a band named Tool. The story is about a society in a brink of a destruction that still rely on a salvation by a so called higher power, allthough the shit has allready hitted the fan.

9. ”Torn”: This one starts as an angry rock-mayhem and ends to callmness.A slight Dozerism in the riff and in comping and that is not a bad thing at all.One of my favourite songs and the story is about a frustration against the man himself. The anger is so overwhelming that you are not able to think clearly what to do with it.This song was also one of the first that took a place to this album.

10. ”Soulcarvers”: The final track of the album which is in it’s well deserved place. You can hear some of the same mood, like when you listen to for example Mogwai. This is Wille’s writing and it’s maybe the best that everyone makes their own conclusions about it. So here’s the last chorus of the song.Thank you for reading!!

”When you have lost all direction.
Let the silence speak the loudest words.
When you have lost all direction.
Let the undone come to life.
And feel the love engraved. To the undivided precence of hope and innocence”
