Kerry King: En usko, että ”Big Four” -keikkoja tullaan enää järjestämään

Thrash metal -legenda Slayerin kitaristina tunnettu Kerry King ei usko, että tulevaisuudessa nähdään enää ”Big Four” -keikkoja tai -kiertueita. ”Big Four” on viittaus neljään ehkä jopa maailman parhaiten tunnettuun thrash metal -yhtyeeseen 1980-luvulta – ”Big Four” pitää sisällään yhtyeet Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax ja Megadeth.

Ensimmäisen kerran nelikko soitti yhdessä 16. kesäkuuta 2010 Sonisphere-festivaaleilla Puolassa. Tuolloin paikalla oli noin 81 000 katsojaa. Seuraavan kerran nelikko esiintyi syyskuun 14. päivä 2011 Yankee Stadiumilla New Yorkissa. Tämän jälkeen Metallica, Slayer sekä Anthrax ovat soittaneet yhdessä useissa eri tapahtumissa mukaan lukien Soundwave-festivaalit Australiassa.

Chris Jerichon podcastissa ”Talk Is Jerichossa” Kerry Kingiltä kysyttiin, uskooko hän, että ”Big Four” keikkoja järjestetään tulevaisuudessa? King vastasi:

”I don’t. When we started doing those, I thought it was gonna really rad for the fans, and it wound up being really rad for me as well as the fans. I didn’t think it would be that big a deal, but I loved the hell out of ’em. ’Cause us and Metallica, we’ve never been at odds, but we just ran in different circles. And I hadn’t seen those guys in probably 20 years, and then to do a handful of shows with them, it was totally fun. I’d hang out with Lars Ulrich on days off, ’cause he’s like the going-out guy, and I’m the going-out guy. So we did that. Kirk Hammett would be hanging out backstage. I’ve known Robert Trujillo forever and I’ve known James Hetfield since the ’80s.”

Kirk Hammett Metallicasta on myös sanonut oman mielipiteensä asiasta:

”I see those shows [Big Four] as kind of like a celebration — a real celebration of each other, and a real celebration of the music that we all make, and a real celebration of the audience embracing we’ve done. And why not have more of that?”

Megadethin keulakuva Dave Mustaine kertoi vuonna 2016 mahdollisista ”Big Four” -keikoista seuraavasti:

”We’ve got a lot of great stuff going on, but if ’Big Four’ stuff presented itself, we’d probably yield to that, because it’s a lot more fun and it’s such an event that it takes precedence over just another tour, so to speak.”
