Shock rock -legenda Alice Cooper julkaisi tänään uuden ”Detroit Stories” -albumin
Alice Cooperin uusi albumi ”Detroit Stories” on julkaistu tänään 26. helmikuuta earMUSICin kautta.
”Detroit Stories” on nimetty Alice Cooperin synnyinkaupungin mukaan, jossa vallitsi aikoinaan maailman kovimmat ja hulluimmat rokkipiirit. Kyllästyttyään Los Angelesin flower power -liikkeeseen vuonna 1970 päätti Alice Cooper yhdessä tuottajansa Bob Ezrinin kanssa siirtyä Detroitin rajaseuduilla sijaitsevaan maatilataloon säveltämään uutta materiaalia silloiselle tulevalle kolmannelle täyspitkälleen. Yhtye edusti imagoa, joka oli täydellinen vastakohta flower power -liikkeen edustamalle rauhalle ja rakkaudelle, eikä Los Angeles tai mikään muukaan paikka voinut tarjota heille haaveilemaansa menestystä. Alice Cooper halusi takaisin hard rockin synkemmälle maaperälle.

Ezrin työsti yhtyettä yli 10 tuntia päivässä, minkä avulla heidän omintakeinen soundinsa lopulta muodostui. Legendan mukaan taloa vastapäätä oli rikollisten mielisairaala, josta kuului hurrauksia joka kerta, kun yhtye sai uuden kappaleen valmiiksi… Näin syntyi meidän tänäkin päivänä tuntemamme Alice Cooper.
Cooper on kertonut Detroitista seuraavaa:
”Detroit was Heavy Rock central then. You’d play the Eastown and it would be Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, the Stooges and the Who, for $4! The next weekend at the Grande it was MC5, Brownsville Station and Fleetwood Mac, or Savoy Brown or the Small Faces. You couldn’t be a soft-rock band or you’d get your ass kicked.

Detroit was a haven for the outcasts. And when they found out I was born in East Detroit… we were home.”
