The Beatlesin 50 vuotta sitten julkaistun ”Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” kunniaksi dokumentti
Kesäkuun 1. päivä vuonna 1967 The Beatles julkaisi ”Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”-albumin, jota Rolling Stones -lehti kuvaili rock-musiikin tärkeimmäksi albumiksi. Levyn juhlavuoden kunniaksi toukokuun 26. päivä yhtyeestä esitetään ”It Was Fifty Year Ago Today! Sgt Pepper & Beyond” -dokumentti Englannin elokuvateattereissa. Elokuvateatterilevitysten jälkeen dokumentista julkaistaan kesäkuun 1. päivä digitaalinen versio ja 3. päivä kesäkuuta DVD sekä Blu-ray -julkaisut.
Dokumentin ohjasi Alan G. Parker ja tuottajana toimi Reynold D’Silva sekä Alexa Morris. Videolla tullaan näkemään aiemmin julkaisematonta materiaalia 60 -luvulta. Kuvattu materiaali seuraa The Beatlesia kahdentoista kuukauden ajan, jonka kuluessa selviää miksi yhtye lopetti kiertueet. Dokumenttiin on haastateltu mm. The Beatlesin alkuperäistä rumpali Pete Bestia, John Lennonin siskoa Julia Bairdia sekä manageri Brian Epsteinin sihteeriä Barbara O’Donnellia.

Described by Rolling Stone magazine as “The most important rock & roll album ever made…”, it left an indelible mark on the 60s and went on to become one of the biggest selling records of all time.
IT WAS FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAY! THE BEATLES: SGT. PEPPER & BEYOND examines the twelve months (Aug 1966 – Aug 1967) that would arguably be the most crucial in the band’s career, a year in which they stopped being the world’s number one touring band and instead became the world’s most innovative recording artists, pushing the boundaries of what could be achieved in the studio.
