Uuden EP:nsä maaliskuussa julkaiseva System Of A Downin Serj Tankian paljastaa työstävänsä parhaillaan kahta uutta albumia

Yhdysvaltalaisesta metallijätti System Of A Downista tunnettu laulaja Serj Tankian on julkaisemassa maaliskuun 19. päivä uuden, ”Elasticity”-nimisen EP:n, joka koostuu Tankianin alun perin pääbändilleen System Of A Downille kirjottamista kappaleista. Tulevan EP:n nimikkokappale on nyt julkaistu, ja voit katsoa siitä kuvatun videon tästä:

Tankian on antanut EP:hen liittyen Kerrang!:lle haastattelun, jossa on paljastanut korona-aikana kirjoittaneensa jo yhden jos toisenkin rock-aiheisen EP:n valmiiksi, sekä työstävänsä parhaillaan jopa kahta uutta täyspitkää albumia. Tankian kertoi albumien olevan tyyliltään elokuvamusiikkia ilman lauluja. Hän avasi tilannetta uuden musiikin osalta seuraavasti:

“All I can tell you is that I have some material ready from last year because lockdown was a musician’s studio dream, in a way. You can get in and work because you don’t need to travel or anything else. I was able to create and finish a lot of music as well.

“I was able to finish this EP, I’ve created another EP of a different genre of rock, more electronic and mellow and beautiful. That type of music. I’ve got two records of cinematic music, instrumental music of stuff that I’ve had that I created for the sake of it, and a 24-minute modern piano concerto that I’ll be releasing this year.”

Serj Tankian kertoi joulukuussa EP:stä Rollingstone.com:lle seuraavaa:

“‘Elasticity‘, the songs on that EP were written many years back. When I wrote them, the original concept, for me, was, ‘What rock songs can come out of me right now that I can possibly work with System on?’ So the intention was, actually, to sit down, and I’ve played them for the [other] guys [in System], and we even kind of messed around with some of ’em, and whatnot. And, obviously, we were unable to see eye-to-eye on continuing the future recordings of System, except for, obviously, these two songs for the cause that we’ve done, and that was before—obviously, a couple of years before.

So these songs, I decided to finish them myself and release them. And they are really interesting and beautiful songs — going from really heavy type of System-esque type of music to really beautiful, ballady — including pianos and string arrangements and stuff like that. So, it’s quite diverse for just five songs. And thematically, it’s quite diverse as well — a song about terrorism; a song about protests in Armenia years ago; a song about my son Rumi, kind of also cut with the poet Rumi, in a way — it’s an homage to the poet Rumi and his namesake, basically, in a way. And a few other pieces. So it’s kind of all around the place, as everything I do is.”
