Kirjoittanut Arto Mäenpää - 26.11.2014

Engel 2014Ruotsalainen industrial metallia soittava Engel julkaisee uuden ”Raven Kings” -nimeä kantavan albuminsa 26. marraskuuta Gain Musicin kautta.

1. Mercyful Fate – ”Don´t Break The Oath”:

”Olin juuri nähnyt ”The Exorcist”-elokuvan ja tuohon aikaan tykkäsin paljon kauhuleffoista.

2. Motörhead – ”No Sleep Til`Hammersmith”:

”Omassa nuoruudessani viihdyin paljon vanhempien ihmisten seurassa, koska he opettivat minulle paljon asioita, kuten soittamaan kitaraa sekä pelaamaan jalkapalloa. Kuuntele kyseiseltä albumilta vaikka kappale ”Metropolis”, jossa on ihan älytön groove. Pilthy on rautaa!! Albumin kannet saivat live-kuvineen minut haaveilemaan rokkitähteydest,ä ja omasta mielestäni Motörhead on yksi maailman parhaista bändeistä. Lemmy on maailman ainut jäljellä oleva aito rokkitähti!”

3. Metallica – ”Ride The Lightning”:

5. Judas Priest – ”Defenders Of The Faith”:

”Wow! Rob Halford on metallijumala!!”

”I have just seen ”The Exorcist” with Linda Blair and was really into horror movies and to this day I think it´s the best horror movie ever made. I got 5 different editions of the same movie. This was way back in the fourth grade. In our school we had this morning gathering once a week on thursday´s morning for 30 minutes and this morning the music teacher went nuts about a picture of King Diamond (Mercyful Fate era) holding his upside down bone cross and full painting on stage and teacher was shouting that we can´t listen to this devilish music and that King should be locked away forever..Hahaha, me and my friend thought that this must be the coolest and the scariest band ever, that combined with ”The Exoricst I” was hooked and lost. So me and my friend who was the best shoplifter of all time went down to the mall and stole ”Don´t Break The Oath” the same day after school and went home to his place and had a listen, I was totally blown away and and my friend was more.. ehh, you can have this if you like!!!!! Oh YES!! That was the beginning of a lifelong admiration for Mercyful Fate & King Diamond!! He actually called me on my birthday and I could not believe it was King until 5 minutes later, we talked for 15 minutes and he was soooo great!!”

2. Motörhead – ”No Sleep Til`Hammersmith”:

”I used to hang out with the older crowd when I grew up which was great ’cus they learned me a lot of great stuff like pick up a guitar, being good at football etc.. This is my first ever record on vinyl and I got it from my dad who figured I was into metal from seeing me with my friends. This was a total surprise cus`my dad is all into country/Johnny Cash and a vinyl collector since back in 1958.. hahaha.. He gave me the album and I was hooked from the second I hold it in my hand, the bomber just above the bands heads and heavy lightning!! This is the best live album ever made in my opinion and I know every snare hit and lines and everything in-between songs… just listen to ”Metropolis”, what a groove!!!! Pilthy Rules!! The inner sleeve got me curious and made me wonder how it was like on tour cus´the there´s photos all over the inner sleeve ahhh just awesome, so guess if I was starstruck when I got to play Hammersmith myself one day :)) But the album is actually recorded in Leeds, hihi but anyway, I Love this album and the band is still my favorites to this day!! Lemmy is the last living Rock Star!!”

3. Metallica – ”Ride The Lightning”:

”It was back when I use to tag along with my mum to the mall and help carry the groceries and of course try to sneak into the record store and listen to some cool metal vinyls. The first time I saw the cover artwork I was just thinking it has to be so good with the electric chair and lighting and the shades of blue and let´s not forget about the backside which was all the band member with fighting poses on their faces. I thought it must be just awesome. The first time the intro came on I got goose bumbs all over my entire body and then ”Fight Fire With Fire” kicks in, WOW!! Shit.. I had never heard anything that massive and fast ever!! Hahahaha.. I just have to get this album NOW!! Yepp, my mum bought it for me without any hesitation, guess she could see that I was all into the music.. As you can see my parents were always supportive to me in every way and still are, so thank´s a lot mum & dad, I love you!!”

4. Candle Mass – ”Epicus Doomicus Metalicus”:

”We had this radio program in Sweden once a week on Saturdays called Rock Box which was hosted by the mighty Pär Fontander who did a awesome job promoting new metal into Swedish teenagers. We discovered a lot of cool bands like Metal Church, Savatage & Malice.. so thanks to Pär a lot of bands got discovered and could make a name for themselves. This was the time when internet/mobilephones was something in Blade Runner. Leif Edling, the head honcho of Candle Mass, was interviewed for like 15 minutes and the songs were like anything I ever had heard before.. ”Solitude” and ”Crystal Ball” was so majestic and epic that I just thought.. it can´t get heavier than this. Of course I recorded the show on cassette so my sisters and parents got tormented by these songs a whole summer, hihihi. Until`I found the vinyl!!”

5. Judas Priest – ”Defenders Of The Faith”:

”WOW!! From the opening track ”Freewheel Burning” to ”The Sentinel” I just stopped breathing or I was in this metal movie or something.. hahaha, just look at the inner sleeve Amazing, that´s METAL at it´s purest!! Twin guitar, soaring vocals, great production and the songs to kill for. KK & Tipton made me want to really go for the guitar for real, but my parents were wise about this ’cos they thought I should start with a acoustic to see if I was into playing at all, so guess if I was devastated at first but I got to learn the chords from my older friends who were already ready to go with their bands!! I used to play A LOT of football and didn´t stop until I was 17 years when I got to choose guitar or football..hmm.. guess if the inner sleeve on Defenders and the album itself helped me decide which way to go ;) So thank´s KK & Tipton for showing me the way and for all the great music/albums!! Rob Halford is the Metalgod!!”
