Craig Goldy Ronnie James Dion hologrammista: ”Tarkoituksena ei ollut herättää häntä kuolleista”
Vuonna 2010 vatsasyöpään menehtynyt, legendaarinen laulaja Ronnie James Dio teki paluun konserttilavoille hologrammin muodossa Saksan Wacken Open Air-metallifestivaalilla. Hologrammi heijastettiin lavalle yllättäen entisten bändikavereidensa luotsaaman Dio Disciplesin keikan setin loppupuolella. Tällöin nauhalta kuului Ronnien esittämä vuonna 1984 ilmestynyt ”We Rock”-klassikkokappale tribuuttiyhtyeen soittaessa livenä taustalla. Yhtyeen kitaristi Craig Goldy on kertonut, että tarkoituksena ei ollut herättää häntä kuolleista:
“What we tried to do as a gift to the fans was to give them him. It wasn’t like we were trying to raise him from the dead. We know he’s gone, but he’s not gone. People love him because of the kind of person he was. Ronnie brought that ‘Oh my God’ moment, so that’s what we tried to do in a similar way, just to keep that alive.”

Leskeksi jäänyt Wendy Dio on väittänyt, että Ronnie olisi hyväksynyt Wackenin lokakuun hologrammiesityksen.
”He was always into fantasy and theatrics. I thought it was something he probably would want to do, and something to keep his memory and his music alive. I think he gave us blessing. I like to think he would, and we did it with love, so we hope he did.”

“We thought this would be good for a lot of people who loved Ronnie and would love to see him again, as well as the fans who didn’t get the opportunity to see him.
Eyellusion-firman valmistama hologrammi yllätti Wendyn realistisuudellaan ja sai hänet itkemään. Vaikka esitys sai monet muutkin kyynelehtimään, oli naisen mukaan vastaanotto kuitenkin myönteinen.
“They were all enjoying it, but crying. It was a lot of love. They really got it and they loved it. I didn’t think I was going to cry, but I did. You always get the naysayers, but I think people that haven’t seen Ronnie would love to see it, and people that have seen Ronnie would love to see him again, especially with his bandmates.”
Wendy ja Dio Disciples ovat vahvistaneet, että hologrammi tulee näyttäytymään yhtyeen kanssa myös ensi vuoden maailmankiertueella.
