Devin Townsend julkaisi uuden singlen ”Enter the City (The Afterlife)”

Kanadalainen progressiivinen metal -artisti Devin Townsend on julkaissut singlen ”Enter the City (The Afterlife)”. Kappale on osa tulevan ”The Moth” -albumin deluxe-painosta.

”The Moth” ilmestyy 29. toukokuuta InsideOut Musicin kautta. Kyseessä on Townsendin järjestyksessään 29. studioalbumi ja tähänastisista töistään kunnianhimoisin. Townsend kertoo kantaneensa projektia mielessään yli vuosikymmenen. Hän vihjasi albumin olemassaolosta ensimmäisen kerran jo vuonna 2016.

Townsend kuvailee ”The Mothia” löyhäksi tarinaksi henkilöstä, joka huomaa vanhojen käyttäytymismallien lakanneen palvelemasta itseään. ”Enter the City” sijoittuu tämän tarinakaaren alkupuolelle. Albumin keskeinen teema on muodonmuutos ja aito itseensä tutustuminen. Townsend on myös kiitellyt Noord Nederlands Orkestia poikkeuksellisesta panoksesta projektiin.

Projekti sai konkreettisen muodon noin kuusi vuotta sitten, kun Noord Nederlands Orkestin johtaja käveli Townsendin luo Amsterdamissa akustisen keikan jälkeen ja tarjosi yhteistyötä. Townsend tarttui tilaisuuteen heti ja päätti suunnata orkesterin voimavarat kokonaan uuteen teokseen. Nuotit hän kirjoitti itse ja opiskeli myös musiikin teoriaa alusta alkaen. Apuna toimivat alan ammattilaiset Joseph Stevenson ja Niels Bye Nielsen.

Levy äänitettiin yli kymmenessä maassa. Pitkäaikaiset yhteistyökumppanit Darby Todd, Mike Keneally ja James Leach ovat mukana, samoin vierailijat Steve Vai, Anneke Van Giersbergen ja Lynn Wu.
