Elektronista rockia metallisin vivahtein – haastattelussa Smash Into Pieces

Ruotsalainen Smash Into Pieces kiersi Keski-Eurooppaa loppusyksystä Amaranthen ja Sonic Syndicaten kanssa. Amaranthen vokalisti Jake E oli jättäytynyt pois kiertueelta, joten Smash Into Piecesin Chris Adam paikkasi häntä ja näin ollen lauloi kahden yhtyeet keikat joka ilta. Yhtye paljasti hiljattain Facebook-sivuillaan mukavan uutisen: bändin kolmas albumi tulee ilmestymään jo tammikuun lopulla. Kaaoszine sai mahdollisuuden jututtaa yhtyettä, ja haastatteluun vastasi mystinen rumpali, Apocalypse DJ. Haastattelussa rumpali ylistää tulevaa albumia, kertoo sen taustoista ja paljastaa, mitä mieltä on joulusta. (English version below.)

Moro, olette juuri päättäneet kiertueen Amaranthen ja Sonic Syndicaten kanssa. Kuinka kiertueenne sujui?

The Apocalypse DJ: Moro Aleksi! Meillä on ollut upea kiertue Amaranthen ja Sonic Syndicaten kanssa. He ovat hyviä ystäviämme, joten parempaa kiertuejärjestelmää ei olisi voinut sattua. Ihmisiä oli paljon keikoilla, ja niistä jäi hyvät fibat!

Jos olen ymmärtänyt oikein, Chris Adam lauloi Amaranthen kanssa kiertueella, koska yhtyeen jäsen Jake E ei osallistunut kiertueelle?

The Apocalypse DJ: Aivan oikein! Chris Adam heitti kahdet keikat joka ilta, mutta se ei ollut hänelle ongelma. Hänellä on teräksiset äänihuulet! Jos Nathan (Sonic Syndicate) olisi tullut kipeäksi eikä olisi voinut esiintyä, Chris Adam olisi hoitanut homman kotiin. :)

Annoit hiljattain haastattelun Unkarissa. Haastattelussa mainitsit uuden levyn ilmestyvän pian. Tuleeko levy kenties tammi- tai helmikuussa markkinoille?

The Apocalypse DJ: Korvapornoa on tiedossa 27. tammikuuta! Juhlistamme uutta levyä kolmella julkkarikeikalla Ruotsissa, ja uusi kiertue tulee pian sen perään. Minne kiertueella päädymme, selviää pian.

Mainitsit myös unkarilaisen lehden haastattelussa, että kolmas albumi tulee olemaan yhtyeen paras, miksi? Miten se eroaa aiemmista julkaisuista?

The Apocalypse DJ: Levy on ensimmäinen, jossa minä, The Apocalypse DJ, vien Smash Into Piecesin aivan uudelle tasolle. Voisi sanoa, että olen toiminut heidän ohjaajanaan: seurasin muita, opetin heitä ja laitoin heidät testaamaan itseään. Olemukseni tulee pikkuhiljaa enemmän ja enemmän esiin levyllä. Prosessin kehityksen ohessa otin johtajan roolia enemmän. Tästä johtuen minusta tuntuu kuin julkaisisimme ensimmäistä oikeaa albumiamme.

Olette julkaisseet jo kolme singleä albumilta. Edustavatko nämä kappaleet sitä, mitä levyllä tullaan kuulemaan vai onko yllätyksiä vielä tulossa?

The Apocalypse DJ: Singlejulkaisut ovat monesti enemmän ”näytä meille rahasi” kuin ”katso minua, olen yksi perkeleen Mozart” -mentaliteetilla toteutettuja. Mutta toki, kappaleet näyttävät suuntaa, johon olemme menossa… Olemme valloittamassa maailmaa. \¯|¯/

Toisella albumillanne kuultiin vierailevaa solistia, kun Amaranthe Elize Ryd lauloi ”My Cocaine” -kappaleella. Tullaanko uudella albumilla kuulemaan vierailijoita?

The Apocalypse DJ: En voi vahvistaa mitään.

Seuraavaksi hiukan lyriikoista. On melko selvää, että yhtyeenne keskittyy sanoituksissa parisuhdeasioihin, mutta haetteko inspiraatiota omasta elämästänne? Ja kuka kirjoittaa sanoitukset?

The Apocalypse DJ: Jos suhteeni täydelliselle antautumiselle asioille, jotka haluan tehdä elämäni aikana sekä suhteeni klubiini lasketaan… Niin toki! Monet lyriikat uudella albumilla ovat kirjoittamiani tai tuottamiani. Se sisältää vähemmän sydänsuruja ja enemmän unelmien jahtaamista. Osa kappaleista on muiden yhtyeemme jäsenten inspiroimia, kuten ”Merry Go Round”, jossa Chris Adam kuvailee parisuhteensa muuttamista huvipuistoksi.

Tänä syksynä useat ruotsalaisyhtyeet, kuten Imperial State Electric, Amaranthe ja Truckfighters, julkaisivat uutta musiikkia. Mitä tämä mielestäsi kertoo kotimaasi rock- ja metallimusiikin tilanteesta?

The Apocalypse DJ: Kai se kertoo siitä, että ruotsalaisyhtyeillä on liikaa aikaa tehdä musiikkia ja tarpeeksi turhautumista saada se rokkaavaksi. Täydellinen yhdistelmä!

Joulu jo kolkuttelee ovella, joten kerropa, mikä on tärkeintä joulussa?

The Apocalypse DJ: Joulu? Kuka ylipäätään kolkuttelee ovia? Uskon ainoastaan itseeni, ja mikäli hän tulisi minun luolaani, opettaisin hänelle asian jos toisenkin.

Onko mielessäsi levyä, jota toivoisit joululahjaksi?

The Apocalypse DJ: En edelleenkään hyväksy lahjuksia siltä hepulta.

Milloin näemme Smash Into Piecesin Suomessa?

The Apocalypse DJ: Pidämme todellakin Suomessa soittamisesta! Sauna, alkoholi ja rock-musiikki tuntuvat olevan ainoat asiat, joita suomalaiset siellä tarvitsevat. Tuomme nämä kaikki mukanamme ennen vuoden 2017 puoliväliä.

Mitkä ovat yhtyeenne ensi vuoden suunnitelmat uuden albumin lisäksi?

The Apocalypse DJ: Levitämme maailmanlopun sanomaa keikkailemalla, keikkailemalla ja keikkailemalla vielä lisää. Kiertueemme päätyttyä ihmiset tottelevat minua enemmän kuin joulupukkia.

Swedish Smash Into Pieces toured central Europe this fall together with Amaranthe and Sonic Syndicate. Amaranthe’s singer Jake E didn’t take apart with the tour so Smash Into Pieces singer Chris Adam replaced him in everyday in Amaranthe’s shows. Smash Into Pieces published in their Facebook site few weeks ago that new album will be coming in January. Kaaoszine had opportunity interview band and band’s drummer, mystic Apocalypse DJ answered. In this interview band’s drummer praises the upcoming album and tells little bit backgrounds of it. He also mentions what does he think about Christmas.

You just finished the tour with Amaranthe and Sonic Syndicate, how did it go?

The Apocalypse DJ: Hey Aleksi! It has been a great tour! Both Amaranthe and Sonic Syndicate are good friends of ours, so we couldn’t have asked for a better line up.  Lots of people at the shows and great vibes!

If I’m right (correct me if I’m not) I did notice, that Adam were singing with Amaranthe on tour, ‘cause Amaranthe’s Jake E didn’t come to tour with rest of band?

The Apocalypse DJ: Correcto! Chris Adam has been doing 2 shows each night on the tour but it’s no problem when you have titanium vocal chords. If Nathan (Sonic Syndicate) would have become sick on the tour and couldn’t perform, Chris Adam would have saved the day anytime :)

You gave interview recently in Hungary on your tour. In interview you told that your third album will be released early in next year, can we expect that album will be released on January or February?

The Apocalypse DJ: EarPorn will occur on the 27th of January! 3 Release party shows in Sweden and a new tour will follow shortly after. Where that will take us, you will know soon.

You also told that it would be your best album so far. Why it will be so unique? How does it make difference to previously releases?

The Apocalypse DJ: This is the first album where I (The Apocalypse DJ) really took the concept of ”Smash into Pieces” to a new level. I started out as a spirit or a mentor if you will. Watching them, teaching them, testing them. Slowly making my presence more obvious. And as the start of the creating process of the third album, I took the role as leader. In a way it’s feels like we’re releasing our first real album.

You have released three singles from upcoming album. Do these tracks represent what people can expect from new album or do you have something special what fans can wait?

The Apocalypse DJ: Singles are always a bit more ”Show us the money” and less ”Look at me, I’m fucking Mozart over here”. But sure, these singles are a part of direction we’re headed… towards world domination \¯|¯/

On your second album there were Elize Ryd as guest singer on song called “My Cocaine”. Do we hear any guests on third album?

The Apocalypse DJ: Nothing that we can confirm for now :O

Then I would like to ask about your songwriting process. It is quite obvious that most of your lyrics handle relationships, but do you take inspiration from your personal life? And who writes lyrics or are you all involved?

The Apocalypse DJ: Well… If the relationship to my devotion, my bucket list and my swingers club counts.. then sure! It’s quite obvious :)

Most of the lyrics on the new album are written or processed by me. It is less heartbreak and more dream catching, I would say. Some songs are inspired by other band members, like “Merry Go Round”, that is about Chris Adam’s way of turning his relationship into an amusement park.

This fall many Swedish bands have released new music, like Amaranthe, Imperial State Electric and Truckfighters. Seems like Swedish rock and metalbands are doing well, do you agree?

The Apocalypse DJ: I guess people in Sweden are spoiled enough to have time for making music, and frustrated enough to let it rock. Perfect combo!

Christmas is almost knockin’ on the door so I would like to know your opinion: what is the most important thing to you in Xmas? 

The Apocalypse DJ: Christmas? Who is that guy anyway, knocking on people’s doors? I only believe in myself and if he would come to my cave… I would teach him a thing or two.

Is there any album that you are looking for Christmas present?

The Apocalypse DJ: Again. I’m not accepting bribes from that guy.

When do we see Smash Into Pieces again in Finland? Maybe next year?

The Apocalypse DJ: We fucking love playing in Finland! It seems that sauna, alcohol and rock is all the people need there. We will provide all three for them in the first half of 2017.

What are SIP’s next year plans besides the new album?

The Apocalypse DJ: Spreading the Apocalypse call by touring, touring and touring some more. People will obey me more than Christmas when my mission is done.
