James Kottak kertoo olleensa erittäin yllättynyt saatuaan potkut Scorpionsista: ”En ollut ollenkaan siihen varautunut”

Julkaisimme sivustollamme hiljattain uutisen, jossa kerroimme Mikkey Dee:n harjoitelleen salaa Scorpionsin kanssa ennenkuin bändissä vuosien 1996–2016 välisen ajan soittanut rumpali James Kottak sai yhtyeestä potkut liiallisen alkoholin käytön seurauksena. Nyt Kottak on tuoreessa The Metal Voicen haastattelussa muistellut saamiaan potkuja yhtyeestä ja kertonut niiden lopulta tulleen hänelle täytenä yllätyksenä vaikka hän vieroituksessa kävikin päihteiden käyttöön liittyen. Kottak kertoi haastattelussa kuitenkin arvostavansa paljon bändin nykyistä rumpalia Mikkey Dee:ta ja kertoo osittain ymmärtävänsä miksi sai yhtyeestä aikoinaan potkut. Kottak muisteli viimeisiä aikojaan Scorpionsissa seuraavasti:

”Honestly, no. But if you’re gonna replace me, get somebody really good.

”Mikkey is a great drummer. I met him when he started with Don Dokken. A great guy. And I’ve seen him play with KING DIAMOND over the years, running into each other.

”I was in [the island of] Antigua [at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads drug and alcohol treatment center], and I talked to the guys about once a week or so. But I never had any indication that anything was gonna change. And because that year also, there was only a handful of shows booked for the whole year; there was only, like, maybe 10 shows. So they got some kid from Greece to fill in [for a couple of dates]. And they kept going, ’Man, you’ve gotta stay there [at the rehab]. Stay there all you want.’ I’m, like, ’Okay.’ So I did. And everything seemed cool. And then I came back [home] to L.A. in July. And we didn’t talk about splitting ways till, like, November or something. I was actually really surprised about that.

”But they’re smart guys, man. They’ve got a business to run. And as they would say, they’re in their twilight years, so to speak, and they just didn’t wanna take any chances on any trouble. I don’t blame ’em. They’re smart. They’ve been at it [a long time].”
