Metallican Lars Ulrich ei usko pystyvänsä soittamaan Rushin musiikkia livenä: ”Siihen hommaan olisi varmaan tarjolla parempiakin vaihtoehtoja…”
Yhdysvaltalaisen thrash metal -legenda Metallican rumpali Lars Ulrich osallistui aiemmin tänä vuonna Foo Fightersin edesmenneen rumpalin Taylor Hawkinsin muistokonsertteihin Lontoossa ja Los Angelesissa. Ulrich on tuoreessa Howard Sternin haastattelussa kertonut olleensa heti mukana, kun Dave Grohl pyysi häntä konsertteihin. Ulrich kertoi siitä, miten hän päätyi muistokonsertteihin mukaan seuraavaa:
“Dave Grohl called me three or four months ago and asked me if I would partake in the Taylor Hawkins tribute shows at Wembley and at the L.A. Forum, and, obviously, before he was done explaining it, I just said, ‘Yes, Dave. I’ll be there. Just tell me what you want and I’ll show up with bells and whistles on.’
Lontoossa Ulrich ja AC/DC:n laulaja Brian Johnson soittivat Foo Fightersin jäsenten kanssa pari AC/DC-kappaletta, kun puolestaan Los Angelesissa Ulrich, Sebastian Bach, Geezer Butler ja Foo Fighters soittivat Black Sabbathin kappaleita. Ulrich kertoi kokemuksesta seuraavasti:

“Playing with Grohl and the other three Foo Fighters guys…at Wembley we did, with Brian Johnson, the AC/DC singer, we did an AC/DC set, and it was so much fucking fun to play. And then in L.A., a couple of weeks later, we did a Black Sabbath medley with Geezer Butler, O.G. bass player and absolutely one of the geniuses of the early days of hard rock and metal, we did a couple of Black Sabbath songs. So it was great fun to go do that.”
Ulrich kertoi haastattelussa Rushin Alex Lifesonin ja Geddy Leen soittaneen Neil Peartin tribuuttikeikalla eri rumpaleiden kanssa mutta myönsi saman tien, ettei hän pystyisi soittamaan bändin materiaalia livenä ilman intensiivistä harjoittelua. Ulrichin mukaan kyseiseen pestiin olisi varmasti tarjolla myös muita, häntä kyvykkäämpiä rumpaleita. Ulrich kertoi Rushin kappaleiden soitosta seuraavaa:
“I love Rush…if they had said, ‘Come up and play ‘2112’ with Alex and Geddy’, I’d go, ‘I think there’s somebody more qualified to do that than me.’”
