Ozzy Osbourne tyrmää ajatuksen esiintyä pyörätuolissa: ”Mikä helvetin järki siinä olisi?”

Englantilainen rockin legenda Ozzy Osbourne on pyrkinyt viimeiset vuodet saamaan itseään takaisin keikkakuntoon mutta toistaiseksi 74-vuotias rokkari ei ole kovista pyrkimyksistään siinä kuitenkaan onnistunut. The Sunin maaliskuussa julkaiseman artikkelin mukaan Osbourne oli ainakin jossain kohdin leikitellyt ajatuksella soittaa keikkoja pyörätuolista käsin. Osbournen ystävän mukaan Ozzy oli nähnyt videoita kuinka Axl Rose lauloi keikkoja vuonna 2016 Guns N’ Rosesin kanssa upealta valtaistuimelta käsin ja oli itse myös alkanut leikkimään ajatuksella että voisi lähteä kiertueelle samalla tavalla keikkoja soittamaan. Ozzyn vaimo ja manageri Sharon Osbourne ei kuitenkaan ollut asiasta vakuuttunut ja hänen mukaansa Ozzyn täytyisi pystyä kävelemään ennenkuin kiertueelle lähteminen olisi mahdollista. Ozzyn ystävä kertoi rokkarin ajatuksia keikkailusta pyörätuolista seuraavaa:

”Ozzy is refusing to give up on his hope of getting on stage despite his statement last month. He has declared: ’I am gonna fucking get back on stage.’ He still has issues with his balance and cannot stand unaided for long periods of time on his legs. It frustrates him that doing a full-90 minute show, filled with his famous stage stomping and crowd interactive moves, is off the table. But he is considering doing gigs in a throne, like what Axl did in 2016 with GUNS N’ ROSES. He was really impressed by that move. And he feels Phil showed that audiences do resonate with you.

”Ozzy worries that he may not be able to sit still, which could be challenging. But there is talk of bringing in some special effects and even stage machinery to have the chair move around. He feels a lot of options are on the table, but Oz is not ruling out Vegas or L.A. runs.”

”That is Ozzy’s determination. However, Sharon [Ozzy’s wife and manager] is concerned about her husband being put through a heavy duty work load around gigs. Firstly, she has deep concerns about his balance and wants him to get back to walking properly, before even discussing comebacks. And she is particularly worried about him losing his balance and suffering injuries. Oz has spoken too about Sharon’s fears of his Parkinson’s condition prompting him to suffer falls like Michael J Fox.”

Nyt Ozzy on itse ottanut kantaa ajatuksesta keikkailuun pyörätuolissa Rolling Stone UK:lle haastattelussa ja tyrmää ajatuksen täysin. Osbourne kertoo haastattelussa pitävänsä ajatusta helvetin typeränä ja mikäli hän keikkalavalle vielä nousee täytyy hänen pystyä keikka laulaman seisaaltaan. Osbourne avasi ajatuksiaan aiheesta seuraavasti:

”I’m taking it one day at a time, and if I can perform again, I will. But it’s been like saying farewell to the best relationship of my life. At the start of my illness, when I stopped touring, I was really pissed off with myself, the doctors, and the world. But as time has gone on, I’ve just gone, ’Well, maybe I’ve just got to accept that fact.

”I’m not going to get up there and do a half-hearted Ozzy looking for sympathy. What’s the fucking point in that? I’m not going up there in a fucking wheelchair. I’ve seen Phil Collins perform recently, and he’s got virtually the same problems as me. He gets up there in a wheelchair. But I couldn’t do that.”

Osbourne kertoo haastattelussa suurimman motivaation keikkojen soittamiseen olevan se, että hän pääsisi kiittämään fanejaan, jotka ovat tukeneet häntä useiden vuosikymmenien ajan. 74-vuotias rokkari kertoi aiheesta seuraavaa:

”That’s one of the things I’ve been the most fucking pissed off at: I never got the chance to say goodbye or thank you,” he said. ”Because my fans are what it’s all about. If I can just do a few gigs… They’ve been loyal to me for fucking years. They write to me, they know all about my dogs. It’s my extended family really, and they give us the lifestyle we have. For whatever reason, that’s my goal to work to. To do those shows. If it’s at Ozzfest or somewhere, or even a fucking gig at the Roundhouse [in London]

”If I can’t continue doing shows on a regular basis, I just want to be well enough to do one show where I can say, ’Hi guys, thanks so much for my life.’ That’s what I’m working towards, and if I drop down dead at the end of it, I’ll die a happy man.”
