Vaikutteeni kappaleina: Kaius Kettunen / Saint Of Disgrace

Kirjoittanut Arto Mäenpää - 7.10.2012

Kotimainen melodista death metallia soittava Saint Of Disgrace julkaisi uuden kolme kappaletta sisältävän singlensä nimeltä ”For My Pain” digitaalisesti 28. päivä syyskuuta.

1. Profane Omen – ”God in a bottle”:

”Taannoin eräs kaveri lauleskeli kotibileissä hevikaraoke dvd:eeltä kyseistä biisiä joka sai minut innostumaan ylipäätään Huuto/Örinä laulusta jonka jälkeen sitä rupesin opettelemaan. Monipuolisen vokaalisuorituksen hakeminen on hyvin tärkeää minulle vaikken kuitenkaan Profane Omenin Jules Näverin laulusaundeja hae enkä niihin koskaan pysty.”

2. Deadlock – ”Code of Honor”:

”Kuulin biisin teininä jossain pelivideossa jota katseskelin ja se sai minut innostumaan örinän & naislaulun sekoituksesta. ”Epica” biisissä oleva naislaulun ja murinan sekoitus tuleekin juuri deadlockin vokaalien käytön inspiraationa. Myös mukaansa tempaavat melodiat ovat inspiraationlähdettä meidän kappaleissa.”

3. Motionless in White – ”Abigail”:

”Kokonaisuudessa en bändistä enkä biisistä pidä mutta rakkaus breakdowneihin on syntynyt tuon biisin jälkeen. Beatdown temmot iskevät aina joita mm ”For My Pain” biisistä löytyykin. Ylipäätään jenkki metalcore riffittely puree tilanteessa kuin tilanteessa niin miksei sitä melodiseen metallin kanssa voisi risteyttää?”

4. Children of Bodom – ”Are You Dead Yet?”

”En pidä nykyään bändistä juurikaan, mutta kyseinen kappale potki aikanaan tekemään luovalla hulluudella melodioita COB:in tapaan.

5. Pantera – ”Walk”:

”Meidän kappaleissa ei juuri näe pantera riffejä koska genre on aivan erimaata mutta Panteran laulaja Phil Anselmo on Jules Näverin lisäksi suurimpia vaikuttajiani vokaaleihin. esim. ”For My Painin” beatdownissa oleva hardcore tyylinen huuto on inspiraatiolähteeltään Phil Anselmolta tullut meidän biisiimme jota tullaan näkemään varmasti livenä enemmänkin kunhan täyspitkä on julkaistu.”

English version:

Finnish melodic death metallers Saint Of Disgrace released a new three song single entitled ”For My Pain” on September 28th. Kaaoszine asked the band´s vocalist Kaius Kettunen to list us five songs, which have been the biggest influence to him as a vocalist so far.  Below you can see Kaius top5 list and the explanations about the songs.

1. Profane Omen – ”God in a bottle”:

”A long time ago, a friend of mine was singing karaoke at a small party we were having, and he was singing this song. ”God in a bottle” is the one of the biggest reasons that made me want to start practicing the style of screaming/death-metal growl vocals. Finding and accomplishing diverse styles of vocals is very important to me, and even though Jules Näveri was the one to give me the push to
start training for this style of vocals, I try not to imitate his style.”

2. Deadlock – ”Code of Honor”:

”Few years ago, I heard ”Code of Honor” in a video game montage that I was watching and it opened my mind to the mixing of clean female vocals to brutal metal growls. In our song ”Epica” the mix of clean vocals and my screams was actually inspired by this song and how Deadlock use their vocals in their own songs. Also their creative melodies have inspired our songs all around.”

3. Motionless in White – ”Abigail”:

”Quite frankly, I don’t like this band or even this song all that much, but my love for breakdowns was born after listening to this song. Breakdowns never let you down and always hit you hard, and that was the kind of thing we were looking for in the song: ”For My Pain”. In addition to the breakdowns, the american brand of metalcore riffs work in all types of situations so why not mix it with melodic metal?”

4. Children of Bodom – ”Are you dead yet?”:

”Nowadays I’m not that into this band, but a couple years back this song really pushed me to create innovative melodies in their style. Even though I don’t write nearly any of our drum parts,
some of CoB’s drum beats and fills have been stuck to the back of my head over the years, and I’ve managed to introduce some ideas derived from said beats and fills to the band, and from there they
made their way into our songs.”

5. Pantera – ”Walk”:

”You don’t see a lot of Pantera-like riffs in our songs because we represent a whole different kind of genre, but Phil Anselmo is one of my biggest influences alongside Jules Näveri considering my vocal performance and what has shaped it over the years to the way it is now. For example the hardcore style scream in the breakdown of ”For My Pain” has been greatly inspired by Phil Anselmo, and you’ll be seeing a lot more of the same sort of vocals as soon as we get to record our first full-length album.”
